Yacht Shares for Sydney and the DragonFly
Port Jackson played host to some veritable yachting royalty over the course of the last month. Reportedly purchased in 2011 from its previous owners by one Sergey Brin – one of the founders of Google – the Dragonfly is a 73 metre stunner, which reportedly cost him upwards of $80 million.
Built in Perth in 2009, the superlatives for Dragonfly are numerous. It is among the first of its kind to be built entirely from aluminium, decreasing its weight, and allowing it to be among the fastest long-range megayachts sailing today, with a cruising speed of up to 27 knots. It comes equipped with a helipad, an open-air cinema, and a Jacuzzi, and has set records for fuel efficiency. Its twin-engine powerplant produces nearly 2500 horsepower, through two screws.
Prospective owners of yacht shares in Sydney, unfortunately, will be obliged to wait on the Dragonfly. It appears as though Mr. Brin has taken his ship off of the charter market. However, this respite could allow a few of us to put aside some much-needed cash – prior to its change in ownership, one week aboard this behemoth was billed at over three quarters of a million dollars.
But, to be fair, bragging rights would be very much yours.
